Understanding Alzheimer's: Awareness is Key
Understanding Alzheimer's: Awareness is Key
September brings attention to an important cause: World Alzheimer’s Month. It’s a time to talk openly about Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, helping to stop the stigma surrounding these conditions.
Did you know that Alzheimer’s is the most widespread form of dementia? It’s a progressive disease that affects memory, thinking, and even physical mobility. Over 650,000 Canadians currently live with dementia, and that number is expected to rise to nearly one million by 2030 as our population ages.
While there is no cure, getting diagnosed early can help individuals continue to lead fulfilling lives. There are treatments available that can improve quality of life for years!
The Alzheimer Society is an incredible resource for anyone worried about memory issues or who has received a dementia diagnosis. They offer various support services and vital information to help families and caregivers navigate this journey.
Let's also take a moment to recognize the importance of lifestyle choices in maintaining brain health. Staying active, eating healthy, engaging socially, and protecting our heads are all steps we can take to lower our risk.
Alzheimer’s poses many challenges, but together we can support those affected by it. We commend the strength of individuals living with dementia, as well as their families and communities.
Join us this September in raising awareness during World Alzheimer’s Month. Together, we can challenge misconceptions and promote understanding about Alzheimer’s disease!
