Understanding Truth and Reconciliation Day in Saskatchewan
Understanding Truth and Reconciliation Day in Saskatchewan
On September 30, Saskatchewan commemorates Truth and Reconciliation Day, a special day dedicated to recognizing the incredible resilience of residential school Survivors and honoring the memory of children who never returned home.
Minister Eric Schmalz invites everyone to participate in local events to learn, reflect, and move forward together towards healing. It’s a meaningful opportunity to listen to survivors' stories and support their communities.
This day also aligns with Orange Shirt Day, a powerful Indigenous-led initiative that sheds light on the lasting impact of the residential school system. By wearing orange, we affirm that every child truly matters.
Throughout Saskatchewan, flags will be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset in remembrance. We encourage everyone to wear orange, engage in local learning opportunities, and explore resources that deepen our understanding of this important history.
