Together We Recover: Alberta's Commitment to Addiction Support
Every life lost to addiction is a heartbreaking reminder of the weight of this crisis. Thankfully, Alberta's government stands with families and communities during these tough times. They're dedicated to expanding access to care and support because recovery is possible for everyone!
Since 2019, Alberta has made record investments in addiction and mental health services — creating over 10,000 new publicly funded treatment spaces. This means that the number of available treatment spaces has increased from 19,000 to more than 29,000, a whopping 55% rise!
No one should worry about cost when seeking help, so the government has removed user fees for live-in addiction treatment and expanded access to same-day support through the Virtual Opioid Dependency Program. This way, location and finances will never stand in the way of getting the help you need.
And here’s some great news: opioid-related deaths have dropped by more than a third in early 2024 compared to 2023! Plus, more Albertans are utilizing same-day treatment services, with over 12,000 clients enrolled in just one year.
If you or someone you know is battling addiction, check out the Digital Overdose Response System app. This free and confidential tool connects you with emergency services if you need help. Naloxone kits are also available at pharmacies throughout the province.
Remember, you’re not alone in this fight. If you or someone you know needs support, don’t hesitate to reach out! You can dial 211 Alberta for more information about local services available to you. Recovery is not just a dream — it's possible!
