Great news for families wanting to visit Canada! Starting January 28, 2025, parents and grandparents applying for the Super Visa can now buy health insurance from non-Canadian providers. This change makes it easier for families to reunite in Canada while ensuring they have the necessary health coverage.

Previously, you had to buy a health insurance plan through a Canadian company, but now you have more options! It’s essential, though, that the non-Canadian provider is recognized and meets specific requirements. Let’s break it down.

To qualify, your insurer must be authorized by the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) and listed among federally regulated financial institutions. This way, you’ll know your health coverage is valid. Your plan also needs to cover healthcare, hospitalization, and repatriation, with a minimum coverage of $100,000. Before you make travel plans, ensure you have proof of payment ready to show at the border!

Interested in the Super Visa? This program allows parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for up to five years, with options to extend! So, gather your family and prepare to enjoy that precious time together in Canada.
