Great news for temporary foreign workers in Canada! If you hold a valid work permit and have a job offer in an eligible construction occupation, you can now enroll in an apprenticeship program without needing a study permit. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has just announced this exciting exemption.

To take advantage of this new policy, you’ll need a registered apprenticeship agreement with your employer, and your occupation must be among the ones designated as in shortage, like electricians, plumbers, and carpenters, among others.

Remember, this temporary policy started on February 26, 2025, and is set to last until February 26, 2027. So, if you’re thinking of leveling up your skills while you work, now is the perfect time!
