September is Recovery Month in Alberta: A Time for Hope
September is a special month in Alberta—it’s Recovery Month! For the past seven years, the Alberta government has dedicated this time to remind everyone that no matter the mental health or addiction challenges you might face, recovery is possible.
Thanks to the Alberta Recovery Model, the province has significantly advanced in building a compassionate, recovery-oriented system of care. This means that people can access the evidence-based services they need to support their recovery journey.
Since 2019, Alberta has added over 10,000 publicly funded addiction treatment spots and has even removed user fees for live-in treatment. Plus, with the launch of the Virtual Opioid Dependency Program, individuals can receive immediate access to addiction treatment, making it easier than ever to get help.
Last September, the government also established Recovery Alberta, a dedicated agency focused on mental health and addiction support. This initiative is a game-changer, providing essential services to those in need.
And there's more good news! Alberta has opened its fourth recovery community in Calgary and is on track to build a total of 11 locations. These facilities aim to offer free, long-term treatment to over 2,000 Albertans every year.
If you or someone you know is struggling, don’t hesitate to reach out for help. You can call Alberta 211 for assistance. Remember, you’re not alone, and recovery is within reach!
