Saskatoon's Plea for Help: Year-Round Homelessness Services Get Boost
The Government of Saskatchewan is stepping up to help the homeless community in Saskatoon with an exciting new initiative! They’ve allocated an amazing $3 million every year to make sure that drop-in services are available every single day of the year.
Saskatoon’s Social Services Minister, Terry Jenson, emphasizes the importance of these funds, stating, “Our government is responding to rising needs in Saskatoon.” This means stable and consistent support for individuals experiencing homelessness, ensuring they aren’t left out in the cold during harsh winters or at any other time.
What's more, this funding is not just a temporary fix; it will aid in better collaboration between the province, the city, and various community partners. Mayor Cynthia Block highlighted how crucial this stable support is, noting it allows services to meet the needs of the most vulnerable residents of Saskatoon.
This initiative supplements earlier investments, including a whopping $40.2 million dedicated to combat homelessness, which has already added hundreds of new supportive housing and emergency shelter spaces. With these efforts, Saskatoon is showing that taking care of everyone, especially the vulnerable, is a top priority!
