Saskatchewan Strengthens Farm Land Ownership: What You Need to Know
Saskatchewan is stepping up its game when it comes to farm land ownership! Agriculture Minister Daryl Harrison has just announced the formation of a new advisory committee aimed at improving how farm land is owned and managed in our province.
This committee, made up of three knowledgeable members, will engage with key stakeholders throughout October and November. After gathering input from the community, they’ll provide recommendations to the government. Harrison emphasizes the importance of ensuring that legislation truly meets the needs of Saskatchewan’s farm land owners.
Ken McDonald, the committee’s chairperson, expressed his commitment to reviewing current regulations. He believes it’s vital that farm land ownership remains a priority, and they aim to protect this valuable resource for the people of Saskatchewan.
But who can own land in Saskatchewan? The guidelines are outlined in The Saskatchewan Farm Security Act, which permits Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and 100% Canadian-owned corporations (not publicly traded) to own farm land. This ensures that local farmers have a stake in their own land!
Stay tuned for updates as this advisory committee works to ensure farm land ownership laws benefit everyone involved in agriculture.
