Protecting Alberta's Waters: Join the Fight Against Invasive Mussels!
Did you know that Alberta is currently free of Zebra and Quagga mussels? That's great news, but we need to stay vigilant! With over 600 beautiful lakes and countless rivers, Alberta is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. However, these tiny invaders pose a big risk to our waterways.
To keep our lakes pristine, the Alberta government is considering introducing an annual pass for watercraft like boats, jet skis, canoes, and kayaks. The best part? They want to hear from YOU! Albertans can give their thoughts on the proposed pass and how it could work until August 25.
The revenue from this pass would help strengthen our defenses against invasive species. The message is clear: preventing these invasive species from entering our waters is much better than trying to manage them once they’ve arrived.
Invasive mussels can cause major damage—up to $500 million annually in the Great Lakes region alone! Imagine what could happen if they made their way to Alberta’s gorgeous lakes. By sharing your opinion, you can help protect the future of Alberta’s waterways.
So let’s come together and keep our great outdoors safe. Fill out the survey and make your voice heard!
