Celebrate Nuclear Science Week in Saskatchewan!
Exciting news for Saskatchewan! From October 20-24, our province is kicking off its very first Nuclear Science Week. This event highlights the incredible advancements we're making in nuclear energy and research.
With a partnership between the Government of Saskatchewan and GE-Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy, the province is set to potentially introduce the BWRX-300 small modular reactor, marking a significant step forward!
Minister Jeremy Harrison emphasized the importance of nuclear energy for our future electricity needs. Saskatchewan boasts world-class research facilities and is the second-largest uranium producer globally, making us a key player in the nuclear field.
In 2024, we reached an impressive uranium production level of 16.7 thousand tonnes, up by 28% from the previous year! This growing demand sparks investment in mineral exploration, projected to surpass $400 million in 2025.
Moreover, the Saskatchewan Research Council is leading the charge in developing microreactor technology, catering to the unique needs of our province's industries. We’ve got exciting potential on the horizon!
From October 20-22, Saskatoon will host the inaugural CNA-West Conference, gathering industry leaders to shed light on Saskatchewan's nuclear power advantages.
On October 25, don’t miss the chance to explore nuclear science at the Saskatchewan Science Centre. With hands-on activities and expert insights, it’s perfect for all eager learners! For more info, visit www.sasksciencecentre.com.
