Exciting news from Alberta! Meet John Wort Hannam, a talented musician from Lethbridge, who has recently been appointed as Alberta’s Artist in Residence for 2025-26. John is not only a JUNO nominee but also a three-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner, and his music beautifully celebrates the stories of everyday Albertans.

With over 25 years in the music scene, John is ready to share his creativity with communities across Alberta. His project, titled ‘Everyone Has a Story,’ will feature ten songwriting workshops in diverse locations – from rural towns to bustling cities. Each workshop will culminate in a public performance, highlighting unique voices and stories through music.

John expresses the importance of storytelling, saying, “Every Albertan carries a unique story, and when we listen to one another, we build stronger communities.” As Alberta’s Arts Ambassador, he’s passionate about connecting people through art.

Alberta is proud to be the only province in Canada with a provincial Artist in Residence program, providing a grant of up to $50,000 to selected artists like John. His residency not only supports his artistic journey but also promotes the vibrant arts community across the province.
