Welcome to our weekly harvest update! Over the last week, producers have made significant strides in the harvest, with 41% of this year’s crop now safely in the bin. That’s a jump from 23% last week, although we’re still behind the five and ten-year averages of 58% and 49% respectively.

It’s been mostly dry, which has helped the harvest along, but we must remain vigilant about the risk of combine and equipment fires.

Here’s a quick look at how the harvest is going across different regions:

  • Southwest: 55% harvested
  • Southeast: 50% harvested
  • Northwest: 41% harvested
  • East-Central: 31% harvested
  • West-Central: 27% harvested
  • Northeast: 27% harvested

Winter cereals and field peas are nearly done, with lentils at 84% and triticale at 64%. However, there’s a wide range in yields due to varying growing conditions. Each field tells its own story!

Looking at moisture levels, we need more rain to improve conditions and replenish topsoil moisture. It’s critical for healthy pasture and crops. Reports of crop damage from frost and wind have emerged, so producers need to stay on top of things.

As we dive into this busy season, let’s remember to prioritize safety. Ensure fire mitigation resources are at hand and be cautious around power lines.
