Fire Safety Week: Stay Safe with Lithium-Ion Batteries!
Fire Safety Week: Stay Safe with Lithium-Ion Batteries!
October 5 to 11 is Fire Prevention Week in Saskatchewan, and this year’s theme is all about keeping you safe with lithium-ion batteries!
Did you know that these handy batteries are found in many devices around your home, from phones to e-scooters? While they’re super convenient, they also come with safety responsibilities. The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) is here to share vital information on how to use, charge, and recycle them safely.
Wayne Rodger, the SPSA Fire Marshal, emphasizes, “We are all at risk. Fire Prevention Week is a prime opportunity for community outreach on battery safety.” So mark your calendars for a community event on October 7 at the White City Fire Hall, featuring live demonstrations and fun activities for everyone!
Plus, students in Grades 3-8 can get creative and participate in a poster contest illustrating safe lithium-ion battery use. Understanding the potential fire risks of overcharging or using unsafe chargers is essential, as improper handling can cause dangerous situations.
So, take a moment to look around your home. Identify which devices use lithium-ion batteries, ensure you’re using certified products, and dispose of batteries responsibly. Together, we can promote safety and reduce fire risks!
