Have you ever wondered how immigrants in Canada are doing financially? A new data visualization tool from Statistics Canada launched on July 7 reveals some eye-opening insights into the income expected for newcomers in the Great White North.

According to the latest data from 2021, the average employment income for immigrants was CAD $49,160. But it’s not just about the average! The median income was $36,800, which means half of the immigrants earned more than this amount and half earned less.

If you’re considering moving to Canada or are already here, you might be interested to know how immigration status affects earnings. For example:

  • Non-permanent residents: $32,080
  • New immigrants (last 10 years): $42,320
  • Long-term immigrants (more than 10 years): $52,050

In comparison, non-immigrants earned an average of $51,400 in 2021.

Education plays a critical role in earnings too. Those with a Bachelor's degree or higher earned an average of $65,200, while those without any certificates made only $27,400. Higher education can indeed pave the way for a brighter financial future!

Other factors, like having Canadian work experience or proficiency in English or French, significantly impact earnings as well. For instance, younger immigrants tend to earn more over time compared to their older counterparts. So, investing in language skills and education can really pay off.
