Ending the Alberta Teachers' Strike: A New Hope
The Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA) recently faced a pivotal moment as the Provincial Bargaining and Compensation Office (PBCO) proposed a new path forward. This offer aimed to engage in enhanced mediation to resolve the ongoing teachers’ strike that has been affecting classrooms and students for far too long.
PBCO emphasized the importance of returning students to their classrooms and teachers to their jobs. They believe that negotiating with the ATA, the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), and a third-party mediator could help craft a much-needed agreement.
Unfortunately, the ATA declined this offer, leaving many teachers and students disappointed. The government of Alberta is eager to prioritize the needs of children and put an end to the strike, advocating for more teachers, better pay, increased educational support, and more classrooms.
After weeks of disruption, there is a growing concern that continued strike action could harm students' education irreparably. The PBCO is ready to explore additional options to move forward. It’s time to put the education of our next generation first!
