Exciting Elk Hunting Opportunity in Southern Saskatchewan!
Exciting Elk Hunting Opportunity in Southern Saskatchewan!
Hey there, fellow outdoors enthusiasts! If you’re in southern Saskatchewan, there’s an exciting new opportunity coming your way. From November 20 to 27, you can take part in a special hunt for antlerless elk, aimed at helping local farmers and landowners!
The government is stepping in to address concerns about elk causing damage to agricultural crops. This limited hunt lets licensed hunters purchase an antlerless elk licence, starting November 3 for just $30. This is a great way to help balance wildlife management with agricultural needs.
Licences aren’t limited, but you will need to choose one specific wildlife management zone for your hunt. The easiest way to grab your licence is through the Hunting, Angling and Trapping Licence (HAL) system online. Don’t forget, if you were lucky enough to get a licence during the regular Big Game Draw, you can buy this extra one too!
Environment Minister Travis Keisig highlights the importance of landowner participation: when landowners allow hunters access, it benefits everyone by managing wildlife impacts more effectively. So, if you’re a landowner, consider opening your doors to hunters! It’s a win-win!
After the hunt, the Ministry of Environment will evaluate the outcomes to help shape future wildlife management decisions. Want more details? Check out the Government of Saskatchewan’s hunting site or shoot them a message at centre.inquiry@gov.sk.ca.
