Celebrating Disability Employment Awareness Month in Alberta
October is here, and that means it's Disability Employment Awareness Month! This month is all about recognizing the amazing skills and contributions of Albertans with disabilities and how they enrich our economy.
Did you know that people with disabilities are a vital part of Alberta’s workforce? They bring unique talents and perspectives that help make our province stronger! It’s important for everyone to have the chance to pursue careers that are meaningful to them.
The Alberta government is stepping up to provide support with historic investments. This year, a whopping $3.6 billion is allocated to help people with disabilities find fulfilling jobs. That’s more than $150 million more than last year!
Launching in September, WorkFirst Alberta is the largest employment service initiative in Alberta’s history. With $185 million dedicated to bridging the gap between job seekers and employers, this program aims to eliminate barriers to employment. It's created by listening to community voices and is focused on providing the best support possible.
Coming in July 2026, the Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP) is set to roll out. This fantastic new initiative will empower Alberta’s workers with disabilities to find jobs while still getting the support they need. The program's design is heavily influenced by feedback from individuals with disabilities and their supporters, ensuring it truly meets their needs.
This October, let’s all celebrate inclusion in the workplace and acknowledge the incredible contributions of Albertans with disabilities. Together, we can build a brighter future for everyone!
