In a major win for community safety, the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) unit of the Alberta Sheriffs has successfully shut down a drug house at 5128 Maryvale Drive Northeast, Calgary. Starting from October 20, the property will be closed for 90 days, and everyone, including the owner, must vacate the premises.

This court order is part of a larger effort to tackle illegal activities that threaten neighborhood safety. Residents can rest a bit easier knowing this hotspot for crime will be secured with boards, fences, and changed locks.

SCAN has reported that the property was linked to significant criminal activity, including violence and drug-related offences, exacerbating fears in the community. Their collaboration with Calgary Police Service has been crucial in addressing these issues and making the community safer.

Since 2008, the SCAN unit has investigated over 10,000 properties and issued more than 135 community safety orders. This success is thanks to residents who report suspicious activity, helping create a safer environment for everyone.

If you notice any illegal activity in your neighborhood, don’t hesitate to reach out to law enforcement!
