Canada has recently revealed some surprising statistics about its population growth! Between April and July of 2025, the population saw a modest increase of just 47,098 people, which is the weakest growth rate for this period since 2020.

To tackle rising numbers, the Canadian government has introduced a series of strict immigration policies, such as a cap on study permits and a significant reduction in permanent resident targets.

What's interesting is that while immigration has historically been a major contributor to population growth, it only accounted for about 71.5% of this quarter's increase - a steep drop from 95.3% last year!

This trend continues to show a decline in temporary residents in Canada, primarily due to policies aimed at reducing this demographic. For instance, the number of study permit holders and work permit holders has significantly decreased.

Looking forward, the government is aiming for even more reductions. By 2026, they plan to cut temporary resident levels to just 5% of the total population!
