Alberta's Rising Stars: Team Alberta Gears Up for the 2025 Canada Summer Games!
Excitement is in the air as Team Alberta readies itself for the 2025 Canada Summer Games! From August 8 to 25, athletes from all over Alberta will gather in beautiful St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, to compete for gold. With over 4,000 of Canada's finest young talents participating, it's poised to be one of the biggest sporting events in the country.
Supporting these phenomenal athletes is a priority for Alberta’s government, which has generously invested more than $1.6 million in their journey. This includes $744,000 dedicated to operations and logistics through the Canada Summer Games Operating Grant, ensuring everything runs smoothly for our athletes.
The government believes in the power of sport to inspire the next generation. As Minister of Tourism and Sport, Andrew Boitchenko proudly stated, these athletes serve as role models, motivating young people to get active and dream big.
Leading the charge for Team Alberta is canoe kayaker Jonnie Newman, who will carry the flag at the opening ceremonies. Jonnie, who also represented Canada in artistic swimming during the Paris 2024 Olympics, embodies the spirit and determination we love to see in our athletes.
Every athlete on Team Alberta has earned their spot through competitive selection camps across 74 communities in the province. This is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of talent, teamwork, and the heart of Alberta. Let’s cheer them on as they aim for victory!
