Alberta Education Support Teacher Strike Families

The teacher strike in Alberta has brought uncertainty, but the provincial government is stepping up to support families and students. Here’s what you need to know!

To help you and your child navigate this tricky time, Alberta is offering a free education toolkit packed with resources to keep learning going at home. Plus, families can receive up to $150 a week per student to help with childcare costs.

Child Care Subsidy: If you’re in need of extra childcare, there’s good news! Starting after five consecutive days of the strike, financial support for eligible children in grades 1 to 6 will increase, providing up to $644 in October.

Distance Education: Want to keep earning credits? Students from grades 10 to 12 can enroll in distance education without the 10-credit cap for the duration of the strike!

Home Education: Families can also explore home education programs. By partnering with an independent school, you could receive up to 50% of the home education grant, up to $450.50 per child.

And there's more! Alberta’s heritage sites and museums are offering free admission for youth 18 and under, making it a perfect opportunity for educational outings. So while the strike may disrupt school, learning doesn’t have to stop!
