Over the last 40 years, the Royal Tyrrell Museum has been a beacon of palaeontological research, showcasing Alberta's rich prehistoric past. This year alone, researchers uncovered over 900 fossils, giving us a sneak peek into the Jurassic era that once thrived in our province.

Alberta is globally renowned for its fossil sites—think dinosaur tracks, ancient crocodilian skulls, and even a pterosaur! The Badlands are treasure troves for late Cretaceous research.

Among the impressive discoveries from this year are the fossilized skeleton of a plesiosaur, swimming in Alberta’s waters 110 million years ago, and mosasaurs from 75 million years ago!

The museum recently unveiled a new exhibit called Breakthroughs, showcasing five incredible specimens that highlight Alberta's contributions to understanding ancient life. Mark your calendars for October 18, when the museum will host a fun 'silent dino-disco' event to celebrate its 40th anniversary!

If you're unable to visit the museum, don't worry! Pop-up exhibits will be launched in libraries across Alberta, bringing the wonders of our palaeontological history closer to you. Join in on the excitement and discover the ancient treasures that still lie beneath our feet!
