Alberta's Health Care System: What Residents Are Saying

Discover what Albertans want from their health care system!
Alberta health care public engagement

In early 2025, over 2,000 Albertans voiced their thoughts about the province’s health care system during a series of public engagement sessions. These events were all about listening—offering citizens and health care workers a platform to share their opinions and suggestions for improvement.

The government is committed to making health care more accessible and connected to local communities based on the feedback received. Here are the six key themes that emerged from these discussions:

  • Faster and more culturally appropriate access, especially in rural and Indigenous areas.
  • A strong focus on prevention and public health, emphasizing education and wellness.
  • Better planning and coordination of staff and resources.
  • A commitment to transparency and accountability to build public trust.
  • Support and respect for the health care workforce to ensure their retention.
  • A unified and patient-centered approach to health care.

With these insights, Alberta is shaping its health care system through its new provincial agencies, which are actively working to enhance community care. Even though this round of feedback is wrapped up, there will still be opportunities for Alberta residents to contribute through local advisory councils. Together, let’s make the health care system stronger!
