Understanding Recent Police Incidents in Alberta
On July 27, a call was made to the RCMP from Lac La Biche about an individual in distress. Responding officers quickly arrived but found that the man had already left the residence.
Shortly after, police located the man in a nearby field, where he was holding two knives. Officers asked him to drop them, but a confrontation ensued. Sadly, the situation escalated, resulting in one officer using a conducted energy weapon and another officer discharging their firearm.
The outcome was tragic, as the individual was declared deceased by emergency medical services at the scene. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is now conducting an investigation into the use of force during this incident and is seeking witnesses.
If you were in the area and saw anything or have video footage, please consider reaching out to the ASIRT at 780-644-1483.
