Exciting Developments in Saskatchewan's Uranium Industry
In an exciting visit, Energy and Resources Minister Colleen Young toured the NexGen Rook I Project in northern Saskatchewan, a promising underground uranium mine and mill awaiting federal approval to kick off construction.
Located in the renowned Athabasca Basin, known for the richest uranium reserves globally, Rook I is set to become one of the largest uranium production facilities in the world. Minister Young expressed enthusiasm about the project, highlighting its potential to generate numerous jobs and bolster Saskatchewan's position in the global energy landscape.
With an estimated initial investment of $2.2 billion, this project not only promises to create 2,300 jobs during construction but will also establish around 430 permanent roles once it is up and running. It's a win-win for the local economy!
NexGen has committed to community engagement, actively working with local and Indigenous communities to promote economic growth, health, and overall wellbeing in the area. The team at NexGen is ready to start construction as soon as they receive the final green light from the federal government.
The uranium market in Saskatchewan is booming! From record sales and production in 2024 to increased spending in mining exploration, the province is on track to reach new heights this year. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Rook I receives approval soon!
