Every year, women’s shelters across Alberta become safe havens for thousands of families, providing essential services like emergency accommodation and safety planning. Alberta’s government is firmly committed to ensuring these crucial resources are available to anyone in need.

To uplift the incredible work done by these shelters, the government is increasing funding by $10 million over four years. This includes an immediate $3 million investment for 2024-25, enabling shelters to expand and enhance their services for communities in need.

“Women’s shelters offer safety and hope for those escaping violence,” said a government spokesperson. This funding is a step toward empowering families with the support they deserve.

Already, $8 million has been allocated to strengthen women’s shelters in both urban and rural areas like Edmonton, Camrose, and Brooks. These funds will ensure that no matter where you are in Alberta, support is within reach.

The engagement with community partners aims to reshape how these services are delivered, ensuring that families affected by violence receive tailored support that meets their evolving needs.

If you or someone you know is facing family violence, help is available. Contact the Family Violence Info Line at 310-1818 or visit a local women's shelter for support. Remember, you don’t have to face this alone.
