The Aboriginal Business Investment Fund (ABIF) is on a mission to empower Indigenous communities by helping their businesses grow and thrive. With support for purchasing equipment and upgrading infrastructure, ABIF is making a real difference in job creation and sustainable community development.

Take, for instance, Alexander Chemical, which received a substantial $400,000 grant from ABIF in 2024. This funding has been pivotal in turning their growth vision into reality, allowing them to produce high-quality diesel exhaust fluid that significantly reduces harmful emissions from diesel engines. This expansion is not just a win for the company; it’s a landmark achievement for Indigenous-led clean technology and economic progress.

Leaders from the Alexander First Nation proudly celebrate this success, highlighting the importance of access to capital and partnership opportunities for Indigenous communities. By investing in businesses like Alexander Chemical, ABIF illustrates what true economic reconciliation looks like.

Since its launch in 2014, ABIF has supported over 100 Indigenous businesses, creating nearly 1,000 jobs in Alberta alone. The good news? Alberta's government has doubled the funding available, with $10 million each year up for grabs. Grants can reach as much as $750,000, and applications are open until October 15, 2025.

Through various programs geared towards economic growth, ABIF is providing Indigenous communities, businesses, and organizations with the tools and resources they need to flourish—because when our communities thrive, we all benefit!
