Exciting news for international students looking to study in Canada! Starting September 1, 2025, you’ll need to show an additional $2,260 CAD in funds to be eligible for a study permit. This means the total proof of funds required for a single applicant will now be $22,895 CAD.

This increase in the proof of funds requirement kicks in for anyone applying for a study permit on or after this date. Remember, this amount goes up if you’re bringing family members with you! Here’s a quick look at the new fund requirements:

  • 1 family member: $22,895 CAD (up by $2,260)
  • 2 family members: $28,502 CAD (up by $2,812)
  • 3 family members: $35,040 CAD (up by $3,457)
  • 4 family members: $42,543 CAD (up by $4,197)
  • ...and it continues to increase from there!

This proof of funds is separate from your tuition and transportation costs. Plus, if you're planning to study in Quebec, you'll need to meet additional requirements, including obtaining a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ).

To successfully show proof of funds, you’ll need to gather supporting documents. Acceptable documentation includes bank statements, receipts for tuition, and proof of living expenses. Don't forget to check with the immigration office for specific requirements based on your situation!
