Saskatchewan Water Security Rafferty Dam infrastructure projects

The Water Security Agency (WSA) is making waves with a fantastic investment of over $15 million in major projects at Rafferty Dam this summer!

Minister Daryl Harrison recently announced the completion of three critical infrastructure projects that will serve the communities and industries of southeastern Saskatchewan. He emphasized the importance of these upgrades for long-term water supply security and safety.

One of the standout projects includes a $10 million investment to repair the underdrainage system on the Rafferty Dam Spillway. This improvement ensures that the spillway remains functional and safe during high-flow events. Key enhancements involved the installation of new drainage piping and building a new drainage pumping station.

Not stopping there, WSA also spent over $2.5 million upgrading the Boundary to Rafferty Diversion Channel control structure and another $2.5 million to improve the 11-kilometre stretch of Rafferty Road between Highway 39 and 18. This means less maintenance in the future and better access to the dam!

Local leaders are thrilled with these investments. Estevan Mayor Anthony Sernick praised the efforts for ensuring sustainable water supplies, while RM of Estevan Reeve Jason LeBlanc highlighted the dam’s importance to the community over the past 30 years.

Looking ahead, WSA is set to invest approximately $38 million in the next two years to support over 60 key projects across Saskatchewan. With dedicated management of the province's water supply, WSA is ensuring a bright future for water security!
