The Government of Saskatchewan is stepping up its game for safer highways! With an investment of $666,000, six new weigh scale officers are set to join the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol (SHP).

What do weigh scale officers do? They inspect commercial vehicles at designated weigh scales to ensure these trucks and buses comply with safety and weight standards. This initiative is key for not just safety, but also in curbing the transportation of illegal substances.

The presence of these officers means more thorough checks and peace of mind for everyone on the road. Tim McLeod, the Minister of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, shared that this investment will equip officers with the essential training and resources to create safer communities.

Expect to see these officers stationed at weigh scales in Estevan and Swift Current, but thanks to the new Mobile Vehicle Inspection System (MVIS), they can perform their duties across the entire province. This innovative tech helps keep our highways safer, no matter where you are.
