From October 7th to 13th, farmers made significant strides in harvesting their crops despite some rainy weather interrupting their plans. With 98% of the harvest complete across the province, our farmers are hustling to finish up before winter sets in.

The good news: areas like the west-central and northeast have nearly wrapped up their harvests at 99%. However, a few crops are still lingering, including oilseeds and chickpeas. Thankfully, producers were greeted with some much-needed rain over the weekend—ideal for boosting soil moisture.

The latest moisture readings show us that while most topsoil levels are adequate, there are still pockets that need some love—especially before the freeze hits. This is crucial for next year’s crops!

Even as they close in on the final harvests, farmers are busy with post-harvest activities such as weed spraying and fertilizer application. Also a friendly reminder: if you’re driving in rural areas, be cautious as farm machinery is actively moving about.
