Strengthening Ties: Alberta's Role in North American Trade
This October, join Alberta's Parliamentary Secretary Shane Getson as he sets off to Portland, Oregon for the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) Build Northwest Economic Forum and Rail Summit. From October 14 to 17, Shane will engage in vital discussions with U.S. lawmakers and business leaders to reinforce our strong economic partnership with the United States.
One of the highlights will be a session moderated by Shane focused on cross-border freight corridors. These corridors are key for bringing Alberta and U.S. products to market efficiently, enhancing our shared economy. Together, they will explore ways to boost rail, road, port, and pipeline routes that will benefit people and businesses on both sides of the border.
Alberta and the U.S. share a remarkable trade relationship, with Alberta being the second-largest provincial exporter to the U.S., just after Ontario. With trade between Alberta and the Pacific Northwest totaling C$21 billion in 2024, this economic connection is more significant than ever.
Shane states, “I’ve had the privilege of working directly with our U.S. state-level partners. I look forward to continuing those conversations to drive real progress.” Stay tuned for updates from this important event that will shape the future of trade in our region!
