This year's celebration on October 27, 2025, shines a light on the incredible contributions of occupational therapists in Saskatchewan and around the world.
Here’s the exciting part: landmarks across our beautiful province, including Saskatoon’s City Hall and Moose Jaw’s City Hall Clock, will be lit up in blue. This not only raises awareness but also pays tribute to the vital work that often happens behind the scenes. Occupational Therapy transforms lives!
As Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill said, “Occupational Therapy makes everyday life possible for people dealing with physical, mental, or developmental challenges.” And it's true! Occupational therapists create meaningful connections with their patients to help them navigate the hurdles of daily living.
So what do they do exactly? Well, they work with individuals across all ages experiencing challenges due to injury, illness, or disability. Picture this: someone learning to cook again after an accident, or a child improving their social skills. These specialists craft personalized strategies to help regain the joy in everyday activities.
Even better, Saskatchewan is investing heavily in its healthcare workforce. The new master’s level Occupational Therapy program at the University of Saskatchewan will be launching in fall 2026. This means homegrown talent can train right here in the province!
Let’s not forget: pursuing a career in this field is more than just a job; it’s a chance to make a real difference in people’s lives. As we commemorate World Occupational Therapy Day, let’s celebrate the hopes, dreams, and the hard work that makes independence possible for countless individuals.
