The Government of Saskatchewan recently unveiled its First Energy Security Strategy and Supply Plan, a bold step towards a bright energy future. This strategy places Saskatchewan at the heart of North America's energy landscape and relies on our incredible uranium resources, paving the way for sustainable and affordable energy.

Minister Jeremy Harrison emphasized the commitment to nuclear energy as a vital part of our province's strategy. The plan not only extends the life of our coal facilities but also optimizes our existing coal reserves that have been the backbone of our energy supply for many years.

A key aspect of this strategy involves improving grid reliability and fostering new connections. This will open up opportunities for exporting power and encourage the creation of new industries in Saskatchewan!

Furthermore, SaskPower has joined forces with GE-Hitachi to develop the BWRX-300 small modular reactor (SMR), marking an exciting venture into nuclear technology. But that’s not all – Saskatchewan is also exploring larger reactors to address growing electricity demands.

What's more, community input is vital! Indigenous partnerships will play a central role in this plan, making sure that local voices are heard and that there’s shared growth in the energy sector.

“Together, we’re building a brighter, more resilient future for Saskatchewan,” said Sheldon Wuttunee, President & CEO of the Saskatchewan First Nations Natural Resource Centre of Excellence.

This is an exciting time for Saskatchewan as we embrace new technologies and protect our environment while ensuring the growth of our economy. Power up, Saskatchewan!
