Good News for Renters: Prices are Dropping in Major Canadian Cities!
Discover how new trends in Canada’s rental market can benefit you as a newcomer!
Read moreHey there! We know the Alberta Teacher Association (ATA) and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) are in the middle of some serious talks about teacher contracts. Let's break it down for you!
Recently, the ATA put out a document to help teachers explain the bargaining situation to parents and students. But here's the thing—it includes some confusing and misleading claims about what TEBA is actually negotiating.
What's really going on? The main sticking point seems to be salary demands from the ATA. TEBA has made a strong offer to the ATA, which includes hiring 3,000 new teachers over the next three years, totaling around $750 million. This is a big step toward improving our schools!
Additionally, TEBA’s offer includes a salary increase of at least 12% over four years, and most teachers would see even more through market adjustments. This deal would mean better pay for teachers compared to other provinces in Western Canada.
However, the ATA claims are raising eyebrows because they seem to misinform the public and target the students too. TEBA has filed a legal complaint to address these false statements, urging the ATA to correct the record.
It’s an important moment for teachers and families, and we’re hoping for a quick resolution to make sure our kids have the best education possible. Stay tuned for updates!
