Read moreHey there, future Canadian graduates! We’ve got some fantastic news from Canada’s immigration department that you won’t want to miss. 🎉
Recently, they announced a grace period that allows many study programs to stay eligible for the post-graduation work permit (PGWP) longer than initially expected. Programs that were supposed to lose their eligibility as of June 25, 2025, will now remain on the list until early 2026!
If you applied for your study permit between June 25 and July 4, you’re in luck! You’re still able to qualify for a PGWP based on the former eligibility criteria. The total number of eligible programs has also shot up from 920 to an impressive 1,107!
It’s important to note that the field of study requirements mainly apply to college program graduates. But if you’re graduating from a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral program at a university, you don’t have to worry about this restriction!
So, what exactly is a PGWP? Simply put, it’s an open work permit that allows international student graduates from Canadian post-secondary institutions to work for any employer in Canada. It can even be granted for up to three years, depending on your program’s length!
With all these changes, it’s clear that Canada is making every effort to support international students. Want to know more about PGWP eligibility and how to apply? We’ve got your back!
