Call to Action for Hunters in Saskatchewan

Join the fight against CWD and protect our wildlife!
Saskatchewan Hunting wildlife conservation CWD bovine TB

Hey, fellow hunters! Did you know that your passion for the outdoors can actually help protect our wildlife? Imagine this: every time you head out into Saskatchewan’s beautiful boreal forest, you’re not just hunting; you’re also playing a vital role in wildlife conservation. Exciting, right?

This season, the Ministry of Environment is reaching out to all hunters in the boreal transition zone and along our eastern border. They're asking you to submit your animal heads for chronic wasting disease (CWD) and bovine tuberculosis (TB) testing. Why? Because your contributions are essential!

Last year, over 2,000 hunters stepped up to the challenge, showing just how dedicated we are to protecting our wildlife. Environment Minister Travis Keisig highlighted the importance of this effort, thanking all who participated. So, can you imagine being part of this vital mission? Here’s how you can help:

  • Submit your game head within one month of your harvest, or no later than January 21, 2026.
  • Register online at cwdsk.ca to get a unique tracking number.
  • Drop off your game head at any designated testing location.

Even better: Testing is free! Plus, if you’re in a bovine TB zone, you can visit sampling stations if you want to keep your head for a Euro mount.

Let’s be clear: CWD is a serious neurological disease. It affects deer, moose, and elk, which can lead to fatal outcomes for these beautiful creatures. While the disease doesn't have known cases in humans and poses a low transmission risk, it’s crucial to keep our hunting practices safe. If your animal tests positive, proper disposal is key to ensuring the health of our wildlife.

So, are you ready to take action? By helping monitor CWD and bovine TB, you're not only safeguarding wildlife but also supporting the ecosystem we all cherish. Let's make this hunting season a memorable one for all the right reasons!
