On July 23, 2023, a dedicated group of 25 educators and school professionals came together in Alberta to form the Aggression and Complexity in Schools Action Team. Their mission? To address the significant challenges currently faced in classrooms.

This incredible team, made up of teachers, school leaders, and support staff, brings real-world experience to the table. They understand the complexities of today’s learning environments and are determined to make a difference.

“Their insights will be key in finding practical solutions to reduce aggression, manage classroom complexities, and enhance safety and support for both students and staff,” said one of the team’s leaders. The team is committed to providing advice to Alberta’s government, focusing on how to:

  • Reduce incidents of aggression in schools
  • Address the increasing complexity in classrooms
  • Improve safety and support for students and staff

The team's recommendations are expected to roll out as early as the 2025-26 school year, so there’s a lot to look forward to. Moreover, they'll meet at least four times through September, ensuring they stay on track towards their goal. Each meeting will help refine their understanding and solutions based on frontline experiences in schools.

The voice of educators is vital, and Alberta’s local school boards are eager to support evidence-based strategies that enhance safety and promote student well-being. Stay tuned for their final report, expected by September 30!
