Honoring Truth and Reconciliation: A Day of Reflection

Join us on Sept. 30 to honor Indigenous history and the journey towards reconciliation.

Every year on September 30, we take a moment to pause, reflect, and honor the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This important day is dedicated to remembering the children who never made it home, and the survivors of residential schools and their families.

Wearing orange shirts on this day symbolizes the culture, freedom, and identity that were stripped away from Indigenous children. It acts as a reminder that Every Child Matters.

This day isn't just about remembering the past; it's also about encouraging us to learn, reflect, and take real action toward reconciliation. Here in Alberta, we believe that reconciliation is a year-round commitment. Through programs like the Indigenous Learning Initiative, we help over 21,000 public servants understand Indigenous histories and perspectives better.

Our government collaborates with Indigenous communities through various support programs, including the Community Support Fund and the Aboriginal Business Investment Fund, ensuring that Indigenous voices lead the way in finding solutions. These efforts are essential for meaningful economic and social well-being.

Reconciliation shapes our work across many sectors including education, health, and justice. By building respectful and collaborative relationships with Indigenous communities, we honor the deep cultural legacies that enrich us all.

This September 30, let's commit ourselves to honoring the truth and supporting healing. Together, we can walk towards a more just and inclusive future.
